Tinta Merdeka: Celebrating Malaysian Art & Culture at Pavilion Bukit Jalil

KUALA LUMPUR, 27 AUGUST 2025 – This Merdeka, Pavilion Bukit Jalil invited the community to come together in the spirit of patriotism through its campaign Together. We Celebrate — a vibrant showcase of fitness, unity and creativity that ran until Tuesday, 16 September 2025.

As part of the celebrations, Pavilion Bukit Jalil presented Tinta Merdeka, an immersive fashion-art and cultural installation created by UCSI University students, with support from Truley Bateq, Chery and KB Colour Image. In its third consecutive year, the collaboration with UCSI University’s Institute of Creative Arts and Design continued to champion Malaysia’s cultural heritage through innovation, creativity and youthful expression.

From 27 August to 1 September 2025, the mall’s Centre Court was transformed into a cultural hub where heritage met modern creativity. Visitors explored an inspiring line-up of cultural showcases and hands-on experiences, including:

● 16 Batik Fashion Installation Artworks (6–10 ft tall), reimagining Malaysia’s 13 states and 3 Federal Territories into bold, avant-garde fashion pieces.
● 16 Iconic Standee Displays (5–6 ft tall), celebrating unity in diversity through modern interpretations of state and federal motifs.
● The Batik ArtWrap Chery Car Installation, which made its debut at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, merging tradition with modern automotive design.
● Hands-on Batik Workshops and live demonstrations by local artisans, offering visitors the chance to experience the artistry of batik up close.
● Zero-Waste Creativity Booths by KB Colour / AniKertas x Posterlite, showcasing how sustainability and culture could go hand-in-hand.
● Interactive cultural games such as Tic! Tic! Bomb!!!, Smack Deck and Nab in the Dark, along with artist sharing sessions by DuDu and Merdeka-themed activities for children.

Adding to the festive spirit, shoppers also celebrated Merdeka with style. Exclusive handcrafted batik gifts by Truley Bateq awaited those who shopped during the season. With a single-receipt spend, shoppers redeemed: RM250 & above – Batik Notebook; RM350 & above – Stylish Batik Canvas Bag; RM450 & above – Premium Batik Zip Pouch.

Speaking at the showcase, Dato’ Joyce Yap, Chief Executive Officer of Retail, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn Bhd, said, “Tinta Merdeka was a meaningful way for us to bring families and the community together at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. By celebrating Malaysia’s heritage through fresh, creative expressions, we created unique experiences that strengthened our role as a mall for everyone — where shopping, culture and community spirit came alive.”

UCSI University Council Chairman and founder Dato’ Peter Ng added, “UCSI’s partnership with Pavilion Bukit Jalil for Tinta Merdeka allowed students to reimagine Malaysia’s heritage through bold, contemporary expressions of art and fashion. It was a celebration of our nation’s unity in diversity, and UCSI was honoured to be part of this Merdeka campaign that highlighted the spirit of creativity, culture and collaboration.”

Beyond art and culture, Pavilion Bukit Jalil’s Together. We Celebrate campaign also brought an active twist to the Merdeka spirit, partnering with Anytime Fitness, Li-Ning, Anta and LAC to present fun, energising and healthy activities that kept the community moving and inspired throughout the season.

Shoppers also took the opportunity to explore Pavilion Bukit Jalil’s variety of Merdeka offerings — from delicious F&B delights to fashion favourites, home essentials, lifestyle finds and more, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy during the festive period.
